Conditional Borders

Ok, so my guess is this would take a hell of a lot of work to implement, but it's an intriguing idea nonetheless. I've thought about it several times and I'm sure others have as well.

It would be interesting if the ability to use a border for attacking was conditional on things generally outside the scope of attacking in current handling. Specifically, my idea is to have the ability to attack from point A to point B only if point C (or a set of points) is already owned by you.

As a usage example, in my new map based on The Legend of Zelda, I've implemented the ability to attack between the level dungeons similarly to how the whistle could warp you. I've simply implemented this by allowing attacks between levels in sequential order. However, with a more sophisticated conditional system, this could be made more accurate by only allowing warping if all the previous levels are owned. In another example, some points could only be allowed to reach other points if they own a third point that gives them access to an item (a raft, or ladder, for instance).

  • Ownership of another territory or set of territories
This can be implemented by linking it to a continent -- the game designer either uses an existing continent, or makes a new one specially for the condition. If they don't want it to have a bonus, just set the bonus to 0. --Tanketz 04:47, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

  • I can see this causing a variety of problems. Most notably, the increase in conditions causing loops or certain things to become impossible. ie. Point A is required for B to attack C, but point C is required for point D to attack point A.
-As long as there are other territories which can attack the "keys" then I don't see that as a problem. In fact, its exactly what is being asked for. I personally think it sounds fun. If there's a way to do it, I would support it and use the feature in maps. -Reich
