[edit] Custom Name Lists for Games and Players

When games are launched, Warfish provides a suggested random name for the game board. These names are generic and not descriptive of the actual game, but hosts frequently go with the default name rather than choose something more fitting. As a result, the titles of games often give no clue what type of game it is, and this sometimes makes it hard to find the particular game you are looking for in your list of active games.

To improve this situation, it might be useful to allow the game designer to supply a custom list of game names to replace the generic ones. For example, if the Antastic game were customized this way, random game names would be chosen from a list such as "Antastic!," "Ant Wars," "Ant Farm,", "Ant Attack!," "Antastic Voyage," "Defend the Queen," etc., instead of the usual "Rumble," "Crazy Battle," "Destroy All,", "World War," etc.

The same could be done for player names. Names that are inappropriate for an ant game, such as "CowardlyLion," and "RoboNerd" could be replaced by "CowardlyAnt," and "RoboAnt." --Red Baron 17:49, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

To add to this great idea, perhaps the games in-tournament could be more descriptive than Game # as well. Perhaps get the tournament name, THEN add the game number. ie: Flatland Rally Game 3 instead of just Game 3. --Maelstrom 20:43, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for these suggestions. I've added a new mod called "Default Name Mod" to the Design > Mods functionality that allows you to specify Default Player Handles and Default Game Table Names. Please give this a try and let me know how it goes. I hope it gives you the functionality that you need. --Steven 01:09, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, thank you-- that was the sort of thing I was hoping for. Would it be possible, though, to make the names changeable when the mods are locked, similar to the way the About text is handled? This would simplify adding the feature to older games, since you could simply edit rather than copy and edit. --Red Baron 03:59, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm going to break off that last request (for it being editable after locked) to its own feature request --Steven 18:21, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
