I should get an email when you modify this page, so if you need to get into contact with me feel free to try it out (you may want to let me know which page I should respond to you on). --Steven 06:43, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Enhancement Numbers

Not sure I follow completely. Perhaps the recent enhancements page should be laid out with similar sections so that it is a bit more clear. --FadeToOne 05:08, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh! yes, hadn't thought of that. I suspect renumbering would be fine, since it's not like a primary key or anything... --FadeToOne 13:22, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Delete an entry?

Steven, I've made an entry for my board "idiot's delight" with quotes and one without. The one with quotes needs to be deleted, but I don't have those priv, so can you (or some admin) delete it?

Also, how do I make a User:X page like RB? I can't seem to copy his format without making it say "user:"

and i kinda wanted to test this talkback page. Yay wiki! -- Nov 9th.

(how do i add a time stamp?) --HeadMasterX 11:19, 9 November 2007

[edit] Help!

Steven, I can't seem to reach you by e-mail.... can you please take a look at the Pyramid of the Sun game and figure out why ranked games are being launched without proper initialization? The players are getting confused. --Red Baron 17:51, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Just saw that you sent a comment to my profile. I sent two e-mails recently (one by regular e-mail, one through the feedback link on the Warfish site), and if you haven't received them, I don't know how to contact you. Hopefully you will see this note. I made a slight graphical change to the Pyramid graphic on Nov 1, but can't otherwise explain the odd behavior. --Red Baron 23:37, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Game Boards

Thanks for your note regarding the game board stubs. The stub should probably have a nicer icon; if you have a good idea for one, feel free to change it. You might also want to read the discussion page for game boards if you haven't already.

The stub was actually preparation for another idea I've been mulling over: game board categories. Once we get enough games in the list I think it would be useful to assign them to wiki categories so that people who are interested in a particular kind of game can go directly to a list of that type of game. We could have categories such as "Fog games," "Blind-at-once Games," "Historical Maps," "Games Based on Board Games," "Variations on the Sample Game," "Good Games for Beginners," etc. You'd have to have a stub rather than a link in order to assign a game to a category.

Another idea I think would be worthwhile is to have a standard infobox for game boards, something along the lines of this one, though simpler. I've been searching around for an explanation for how to design an infobox, but have come up blank so far. If I could figure out how to do it, I'd give it a try. --Red Baron 19:26, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm done messing around with Game Board categories for now. I tried to give the Game Board Types category the kind of structure I would want to use when searching for a new board to try; you may wish to take a look and add some of your own ideas. Feel free.

I was going to link it to the main Game Boards page, but couldn't figure out how. It's probably easy to do, but I sure couldn't find a syntax that worked. --Red Baron 23:12, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Old Todo Requests Page

Yup, I moved all the stuff that was on there, so it should be good to unlink unless someone has added to it. --FadeToOne 20:47, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Please respond to bug

I posted this bug, back in April. Could you please let me know if you've reproduced it, and if it's something you can/will fix? Thanks! --Maelstrom 16:31, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Not sure if this is where I respond to your response on my talk page, but yeah - that sounds like something worth trying! --Maelstrom 12:51, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Game bot?

The Recent Enhancements page mentions a new bot. I tried it, and it appears to be stuck in the middle of the first turn after placing units. Bug or just reeeeally slow? --Wombert 21:06, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Translating

Unfortunately, not yet, but that's what I'd like to work on. I managed to get the box up that should have all the possible languages, but I couldn't figure out how to customize which languages to use and then link them to the page in the new language. Plus, I'm still new with this wiki stuff, so I'm slowly learning. You?
--Step.On.Me 05:10, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

True. I happened to check Mozilla's website in the other languages and noticed that some of them didn't have completed links...if that makes sense. I'll look into it further and let you know. Thanks for the help thus far!

[edit] Betawiki

I've done a little more digging around MediaWiki, and below are a few links I've found that might help with getting Warfish Wiki translated. Most of the stuff they talk about are beyond my understanding since I'm not a developer, so I thought you or someone who knows the stuff could take a look. I'll continue my search until you say otherwise, but let me know if there's something else I can do.

[edit] Enhancement suggestion tracker

In reply to your comment left here:

A bug tracker (bugzilla, etc.) would help make tracking suggestions more manageable. I've set one up in the past so I would be glad to help in anyway I can. --Cald 23:46, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Step.On.Me's Messages

Hey Steven, just happened to remember about the talk feature on here and thought I'd post a little request that didn't need to go under the enhancements since it's nothing major. However, I read a few of these messages on here...hope you don't mind...and thought I'd add a few things.

1) My small request is in regards to the links on a profile page. When you actually add a link to your profile, you're given the option to create a label for it. I think it'd be beneficial if that label displayed on the profile page either in place of or along with the link beside it.

I could probably display it beside it then the link in parenthesis or something. It used to be used in place of the url, but there were some folks who were using it to trick people to link into places they didn't want to go. Actually it was kinda funny but was getting some people upset. --Steven 17:19, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good. --Step.On.Me 22:05, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
So as an example of my links, they could look something like this:

2) I saw at the top that FadeToOne mentioned creating sections on the Recent Enhancements page that are similar to the ones on the Enhancement Suggestions page. I think having sections would be a good idea so that the enhancements can stay in the same sections & help keep searching for specific things (i.e. a bug) a little easier. I'll do it if you think it's a good idea.

You're right that might make it easier to find stuff. How about this being done as a separate page? In other words we have already have bunch of feature pages and the current page which is a running list; we could just create a new page that also links to the feature pages but is categorized?
I'm not sure what you mean by feature pages and the current pages. Are you talking about the Recent Enhancements page and then each feature having its own page? If so, I'm thinking it wouldn't be too difficult to convert the current Recent Enhancements page into categories. I'm not sure what the purpose of creating a completely new page would be other than having two places to update, meaning that instead of just moving an enhancement from Enhancement Suggestions to Recent Enhancements, then you'd also have to copy it over to the new page. Am I totally off on this? --Step.On.Me 22:05, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
I guess I just mean we could have Recent Enhancements Recent Enhancements Categorized Enhancement Suggestions Actually here is another thought I think there is some way to create actual "Categories" in wiki so we can associate each feature/bug page with a category... then Recent Enhancements Categorized would be generated / created automatically. --Steven 22:14, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
For example, they've created categories for the game boards. Scroll to the bottom of Afraid_of_the_Dark maybe we just add each feature/bug to a category then the wiki will generate these categorized pages for us automatically kinda like the way it does for the boards --Steven 22:16, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
I think I'm beginning to see what you mean. I checked the discussion below with Red Baron, and I've begun "experimenting" with the categories for game boards using my own boards. It seems to be a fairly simple process, and I think it could work for the Enhancements. I'm going to tinker with my boards a bit longer to make sure I understand it, so whenever you're ready to start creating categories, just let me know. --Step.On.Me 22:27, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

3) Finally, I saw that Cald offered to do a bug tracker of sorts to help monitor which enhancements seemed the most popular. Did anything come of this? The reason I ask is because this might help in getting the polls in the forums going since it'll take a bit to sift down to the "most popular" ones. Also, is there any way to know/tell which enhancements are easy, moderate, or difficult to implement? This might also influence what's placed in the polls, but I'm just thinking out loud. --Step.On.Me 07:25, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

I hadn't talked to Cald about it so it hasn't gone forward. A proper bug tracking / feature request system would probably be more elegant. I guess we've been sorta piecing one together using a wiki and forums. I'm wondering when we should do this though. Seems like sorta a balance of introducing more process vs sorta working with what we have. Since bugs already get reported in the forums.. I'm wondering if we should work with what we have for now to see how it goes first before adding in a more process. What do you think? --Steven 17:19, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
I goofed on what I meant. I was meaning more along the lines of what you were wanting in the way of polls within the forums to find out which enhancements (non-bug related) were the ones most players wanted to see implemented, so I guess that wouldn't have anything to do with Cald or a bug tracker - my bad! So, on the topic of the polls, do you want to try to get a few going? Or do you just want to keep going as is now? --Step.On.Me 22:05, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Couple questions?

1. Did you setup the Category system for the Boards? I've been talking to Step.On.Me about categorization for bugs/features do you know how to add Categories?

I set this up a year or so ago. User CRogue has also been adding new categories recently. There's no real trick to it, you just edit the page Category:MyCategory to add a new category called MyCategory. Organizing subcategories under categories is a little trickier, but you can examine what I did to get the hang of it. --Red Baron 20:35, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

2. Is there a "how to add a game board to the game directory" document? I couldn't find it, might be handy so that future additions follow the category system, etc.

The directions are currently under the Game Boards discussion tab. This may not be the most obvious place for them, so feel free to move them elsewhere, and also to modify them as you please. --Red Baron 20:35, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Categories for Bugs/Enhancements

I've started creating test categories for some of the bugs that have been fixed and/or reported. Let me know if this is what you're thinking. --Step.On.Me 17:58, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Here's the test category tree:

  • Category:Enhancements
  • Category:Bugs
  • Category:Gameplay Issues
  • Category:Server Issues
  • Category:Enhancement Suggestions
  • Category:Recent Enhancements

The Bugs subcategory could be limitless or we could just leave it like the Enhancement Suggestions & Recent Enhancements subcategories were they don't have any subcategories within themselves. --Step.On.Me 02:56, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Hey Steven, I haven't done anything more with this since I was wanting to get a "go ahead" from you to make sure this is what you're wanting & to make sure it's pretty functional. Are there any other categories you'd like to see? I'll also probably need to have an idea of how to label the various bugs. --Step.On.Me 23:49, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

I was wondering about the difference between bugs and enhancement suggestions. Theoretically bug is something broken and enhancement is a new feature... but it seems that it can sometimes hard to categorize between the two (i.e. can be a matter of opinion). What do you think? --Steven 00:21, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
I was thinking along those same lines for some of the enhancements. However, the cool thing about the Categories feature is that you can "label" it under multiple categories. So using some of the board categories as examples, you can have a single board labeled under Category:Size Medium Games, Category:Geographical Games, Category:Good Game for Beginners, & Category:Fog Games. We could essentially do the same for bugs. Any that are hard to categorize as just bugs, could be categorized/labeled as both a bug and an enhancement. Think that would work? --Step.On.Me 19:19, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] PLEASE HELP! Game stuck!

I've posted about this tournament in Beta Feedback 2 or 3 times, and even popped you a message on Facebook, yet the never-ending tournament from hell continues! The only way to get out is to surrender or be booted. Since the other player and I want to do neither, we are stuck! There HAS to be a way to either delete the game without having a surrender or boot going on our record, or for us to surrender under the condition that the surrender be immediately erased. Please lend us some guidance!
